Carbonite Web-based Remote File Access
Did you know that Carbonite allows you to securely access the files in your backup from any computer with an Internet connection? This is why they are one of the best online backup solutions. Using the Remote File Access feature introduced last Spring, you can download any file in your backup by logging in to your Carbonite account through the Carbonite website. This highly requested feature comes in handy when you’re traveling for business, on vacation, visiting friends and relatives or any other time you’re without access to your computer.
To use the Carbonite Remote File Access feature, visit www.Carbonite.com. In the upper right-hand corner, look for the tab that says “Remote Access”. Once you click the tab, you’ll be asked to log in using your Carbonite username and password.
Once logged in, you’ll see the file structure of your computer displayed in the left-hand column. If you have multiple computers on your Carbonite account, you’ll be able to select which computer you want to access.
To see the subfolders stored in any folder, click the triangle next to the folder. When you’ve located the folder containing the file you’re looking for, click on the name of the folder and the files within that folder will appear in the right-hand column. Click on the file you’d like to open and save it to any location on the computer you’re using.
Please Note: Only the files in your Carbonite backup will be available through Remote File Access.
“It’s so simple, yet works so well, you’ll wonder why people didn’t think of it before.”

I am currently immersed in an ongoing problem with Carbonite remote access feature. The good folks at Carbonite support seem to be doing their best to help, however the problem has been going on for a while now, over a month. Basically, I can only see about 50% of the files I have uploaded, the other 50% or so cause the browser-based app to hang. I will try to keep this forum posted.
