Question: I have a large amount of files and I want to back them up (you know, pics and music mostly) and all I have is a CD burner. But that would take a large amount of CDs.

Then I downloaded a zip program and it kept freezing around 69MB during the burn process.

So my question here is, since I have limited options (no money for online backup& no money for an external HDD) Does anyone know of a way or a program that can backup my files on less CDs (i.e. a better zip program or something?). Or I am open to any and all suggestions, I was just trying to give you an idea of what resources I have available at this exact moment.

Question: Need to back up between 10 and 40 gigabytes of data nightly over a VPN conenction.

Shooting for a solution that grabs only the files that have changed or that are new to shrink the data transfer.

Currently using differential backups daily and dumping them to tape. Also testing Microsoft sync toy.

Open files will be an issue.

At the moment I have two separate locations that I have to back up.

Early stages (now) everything is manual. Eventually would like to script the VPN connection–mapping the drives–backing up the drives—disconnection the VPN—Connect to second site—and restarting the process…..
